Why one bed flats?
We are one of very few providers in the UK who offer accommodation to women in single flats and are often asked why we don’t offer multiple-occupancy accommodation. We developed our model after an extensive period of time research and consultation.
Living with other women in accommodation isn’t always easy – many of the women we speak to have had particularly negative experiences in hostels or sharing with others. A common experience for a woman who has experienced sexual exploitation is control being taken away. Having a flat to herself gives her the opportunity to feel a sense of ownership over her own space again.
For women who are ready for a degree of independent living, a one-bedroom flat with support in place, helps her to find her feet, regain a sense of safety and prepare her to move into the next stage of independent living. We spend time preparing the flats before each woman moves in, ensuring that they are not only well-equipped, but also provide a peaceful space that is nurturing, restorative and feels like home.
